I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of your despatch No.469 of the 24th December,

1934, enclosing copies of correspondence regarding

differences in the analyses of Chinese tin furnished

by the Hong Kong Government Analyst and those supplied

by reputable assayers in London and New York.

I enclose for your information copies of

correspondence which passed between this Government and

the London Chamber of Commerce in 1927. The further

communication promised by the Secretary to the Chamber

in his letter of the 16th June, 1927, was not received,

but as a result of these representations a change was

made in the method of drilling the slabs. I enclose a

copy of a memorandum by the Government Analyst explain-

ing the methods employed. It is possible that the

discrepancy may be accounted for by differences in the

system of sampling followed, and I should be glad to

receive full details of the method adopted by Messrs.

Daniel C. Griffiths and Company in order that the matter
